Dr. Edwin Lindsey is an archaeologist exploring Cambodian ruins of Angkor Thom in 1983 AD under the auspices of a mysterious benefactor named Paul Augustine. Paul Augustine, revealing himself to be Pious in disguise, tries to kill Lindsey, but he escapes and makes his way through Angkor Thom. Eventually he finds the undead Ellia, who gives him Mantorok's essence; Lindsey returns to the United States and delivers it to Edward. Lindsey is one of only two characters to escape the Eternal Darkness without any apparent physical or mental harm, the other being Alexandra Rovias. However Peter Jacob also managed to escape the Eternal Darkness without physical harm, he is mentally scarred by insomnia (which he implies may have been related to the artifact that he retrieved), it is also possible Michael Edwards escaped though not confirmed.
- Players have noted that Edwin Lindsey is a lot like Indiana Jones due to his likeness, and the situation of which his chapter starts.
- Edwin Lindsey's voice actor, Neil Ross, would later voice the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater villain Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin. Ironically, the voice actor for his nemesis in the chapter, Richard Doyle, would later voice Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, who was an older version of Naked Snake, the main protagonist of Snake Eater and Volgin's nemesis.
